In this Q&A-series, we put video journalists in the spotlight. They are a special breed and, in the spirit of The Concentra Award, we love to hear their fascinating stories.

Between several deadlines, Dutch VJ Robert Schinkel found the time for a brief Q&A in our 'VJ storyteller'-series. We talked to the man behind 'The funeral agency', the film that got him nominated for the last edition of The Concentra award.

How much work experience do you have? And how long as a video journalist?

I've been working as a journalist for 7 years now. I started off as a "normal" reporter for 5 years, the last two years I'm working parttime as a VJ.

How many video journalists work at your station?
Currently, there are five VJ's at my station.

What is the biggest advantage of your work as a video journalist?
That you can't see the difference between a story made by a reporter, cameracrew, editor and a story all made by yourself.

Do you encounter problems as a video journalist?
You have to do so many things at the same time that it's hard to focus on the content of your story.

Tell us about your camera, editing software, ...
I film with a Sony PD170 and do all my editing with Avid Express Pro.

Do you use a tripod? Why (not)?
I use a steadystick and sometimes a tripod. But most of the time I leave the tripod in my car. It's just to heavy!

Do you have an insider tip or trick for fellow video journalists?
Never give up!
